Understanding Your Dreams
The debate is still pretty hot amongst scientists and psychologists about the meaning and significance of dreams.
Some camps believe that they hold the key to unlocking the inner workings of our minds. Others say dreams are part of a survival instinct preparing us for situations we might face.
However, most agree that dreams give insight into the dreamer's feelings, their thoughts, their behaviour, even motives and values.
Interpreting your dreams
When it comes to trying to understand what your dreams mean, the most important thing to remember is that your dreams reflect your own underlying thoughts and feelings.
Everything in your dreams - people, actions, settings - are personal to you. For example, dreaming about a race horse would have very different meanings for a jockey compared to a child that loves their rocking horse.
In light of this, it's perhaps best to avoid books and websites giving very specific meanings to dream images and symbols. These 'dream dictionaries' may be unreliable because the meanings they give do not take into account the background and circumstances of the dreamer.
